I guess it depends how they are made. For my money I have found a hot shoe just as good as hot roll. And as for scratching, with a heavy teflon coat, it can't be seen without a microscope.

Have to agree that scrathing of vinyls and good matt films on heatshoes is near impossible. Who was the clown who started that concern? Not a sign guy that's for sure
